Taxi Transfers To and From Geneva Airport

Geneva Airport is located only 4 km from Geneva city center. The airport has excellent motorway connections to all parts of Switzerland and to neighbouring country France.

There are more than 60 different locations within Geneva's city center, where visitors can hire a taxi to take them to the airport. Only licensed taxis are allowed to conduct business in the airport and their taxi rank can be found just outside the Main Terminal by the arrivals level.

The taxi ranks in the city can be located outside major international hotels and train stations. A taxi from the airport to the heart of the city will cost between CHF 30.00 to CHF 35.00, depending on the traffic conditions at the time of travel, the time of day and the number of passengers sharing Geneva taxis.

All Geneva taxis carry a meter and the basic charge is CHF 6.30 plus the kilometres traveled, which are charged at CHF 3.20 per km. Outside of the Canton of Geneva the charge per traveled kilometre is CHF 3.80. The same charge applies within the Canton at night time, on Sundays and on all Public Holidays. CH3.80 is also charged per kilometre when four or more passengers are sharing taxi services.

For longer car journeys it will be cheaper to hire a car, but for those who do not like driving in a foreign country, discussing the long-distance charges beforehand is a good idea. The city of Lausanne is located within a 65 km distance from Geneva Airport and can be reached via a direct motorway connection.

The towns of Divonne-les-Baines, Ferney Voltaire and Saint-Genis Pouilly are located within a short drive of the airport. The towns of Annecy (38 km), Grenoble (130 km) and Chambery (72 km) can be reached by taking the Par N 201 motorway. During the winter long-distance coaches take visitors to the ski resort and one of the most popular ones, the resort of Chamonix in France, lies within a 76 km drive away. Travelling via taxis Geneva Airport is certainly more private than taking one of the tourist coaches to the ski resorts, but given the charge per kilometer, the taxi journey is certainly going to be more expensive.

When arriving at the airport, it is a good idea to head to the tourist information desk first, where one can buy the Geneva Pass, which entitles pass holders to many discounts and reductions on admission fees to tourist attractions such as art galleries and museums, as well as discounts on shopping and reductions on meals at participating outlets. It is also possible to use public transport within the city for "free", with a 1, 2 or three day Geneva Pass.

Geneva is a French speaking city, but taxi drivers must be multi-lingual before they can obtain a licence to operate an official airport taxi. The beautiful city is nestling in the foothills of the Jura Mountain range. Geneva is traversed by two rivers, one of which is the might River Rhône, which leaves Lake Geneva where the city was founded.

Many international hotels and famous gourmet restaurants are dotted around the right hand bank of the Lake and Geneva's old town center is located on the left hand side of the Lake. Here visitors will find the lovely Place du Bourg-de-Four, Geneva's oldest square and the famous St. Peter's Cathedral as well as the traditional business centre of the city. It is possible to take a water taxi, a mouette, across Lake Geneva to reach the other side, but there are also cruise ships for longer tours on the Lake. In summer visitors can enjoy outdoor swimming pools and lakeside picnic areas.
